Sensory Bible Devotional #2: God Makes Adam and Eve

Dive into God’s Word with your kids using the Sensory Bible Devotional Cards made for little hands and little hearts!

These cards are created with the whole family in mind - from your toddler to your pre-teen! Grab your supplies and your family and gather around the table for a life-transforming message from the Bible! Find out more about the Sensory Bible Devotional Cards here!

This series of Blog Posts will highlight the things we do and learn in each of the Devotionals!

This week, we are continuing the story of Creation with a closer look at God creating Adam and Eve.

Sensory Items:

Each set of devotional cards has a list of “sensory items” to correspond to each card. These are mostly everyday household objects as well as little things you can pick up at the Dollar Store or very inexpensively.

For Week 2, this is what you will need:

  • dirt from the ground outside

  • flowers/leaves clippings

  • animal figures/toys

  • popsicle stick with cut-out happy and sad faces (provided in printable)

Activities this Week:

While the children get to touch the cards and the sensory items, the true joy comes from consistently reading God’s Word together with your children. They get to hear God’s words directly from the Bible! There are discussion prompts on the back of each Devotional Card. In just 5 minutes, you can set your whole day up to be focused on the Lord.

This week will spark lots of good discussion about God’s original intention for relationships, especially marriage and family relationships!

  • Day 1: Explain how God loved the world He created but that the most special part of Creation was missing, so God created man out of dirt (or dust.) Handle real dirt and blow into it like God did! How cool!

  • Day 2: Handle leaf and flower clippings from your yard or somewhere local as you discuss the perfect Garden of Eden.

  • Day 3: Name a collection of animal toys you have at home like Adam did in the garden. Discuss how working is good for you and was part of God’s original design!

  • Day 4: Play with the sad-face popsicle stick puppet as you talk about what it feels like to be lonely.

  • Day 5: Now make a happy-face popsicle stick puppet and act out how God put Adam to sleep, took out one of his ribs, and made his perfect mate: Eve!

We like to wrap up our Bible study with a review day. Staple the cards together to form a booklet, read it together, and maybe even have your child “read” it to another family member!

Prep a Bible Basket:

This is our Bible Basket setup, with the devotional card and sensory item(s) for that day in individual plastic sandwich bags. This is why you may hear me refer to them as, “sandwich bag devotionals” occasionally.
