Sensory Bible Devotional #1: Creation

Dive into God’s Word with your kids using the Sensory Bible Devotional Cards made for little hands and little hearts!

These cards are created with the whole family in mind - from your toddler to your pre-teen! Grab your supplies and your family and gather around the table for a life-transforming message from the Bible! Find out more about the Sensory Bible Devotional Cards here!

This series of Blog Posts will highlight the things we do and learn in each of the Devotionals!

This week, we are starting at the beginning with the story of Creation found in Genesis 1:1-31 and 2:1-3.

Sensory Items:

Each set of devotional cards has a list of “sensory items” to correspond to each card. These are mostly everyday household objects as well as little things you can pick up at the Dollar Store or very inexpensively.

Activities this Week:

This week has 7 cards instead of the usual 5. I didn't have the heart to combine days of Creation. We LOVED singing the Bible verse again as we memorized it.

We sang Genesis 1:1 to the tune of, “Are You Sleeping?”:

In the Beginning, in the Beginning,

God Created, God Created,

The Heavens and the Earth, The Heavens and the Earth,

Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:1

We also used sign language (beginning + God + created + point up + point down + one finger + one finger.) Send me a message on Instagram @raisingkingdomwarriors and remind me to put it in my stories if you want to see it!

So, what does this week look like? Here’s a peek:

  • Day 1: Put on a blindfold and discuss the significance of God creating LIGHT!

  • Day 2: Fill one balloon with air and one balloon with water. Discuss the difference and the importance of AIR!

  • Day 3: Get your hands in real dirt as you discuss how God created LAND and PLANTS!

  • Day 4: Discuss the lights in the sky and compare them to a night light and a regular lightbulb.

  • Day 5: Have a goldfish snack and feel real feathers of birds as you teach your child how God created fish and birds.

  • Day 6: Add animal stickers to the scene of Creation on your devotional card and make a man out of play-dough like God created Adam out of the dirt. Have fun making animal sounds, too!

  • Day 7: Discuss the beauty and comfort of rest with a comfy cotton ball.

  • Review: Mix up the cards, re-tell the story, bind the cards in a book, and enjoy!

These cards have brought us tremendous joy. I think the beauty is in their simplicity and the fact that it only takes 5-10 minutes per day (and 10 minutes of prep on the weekend by Mom!)

Prep a Bible Basket:

Bible Basket

This is our Bible Basket setup, with the devotional card and sensory item(s) for that day in individual plastic sandwich bags. This is why you may hear me refer to them as, “sandwich bag devotionals” occasionally.
