Sensory Bible Devotional #6: Noah Builds the Ark

Dive into God’s Word with your kids using the Sensory Bible Devotional Cards made for little hands and little hearts!

These cards are created with the whole family in mind - from your toddler to your pre-teen! Grab your supplies and your family and gather around the table for a life-transforming message from the Bible! Find out more about the Sensory Bible Devotional Cards here!

This series of Blog Posts will highlight the things we do and learn in each of the Devotionals!

This Week…

This week, we are reading Genesis chapters 5 and 6 and discovering how God called Noah to build an Ark! We will first talk about the connection between Adam and Eve and Noah (chapter 5), and then we will talk about why God chose Noah (chapter 6).

Activities this Week:

While the children get to touch the cards and the sensory items, the true joy comes from consistently reading God’s Word together with your children. They get to hear God’s words directly from the Bible! There are discussion prompts on the back of each Devotional Card. In just 5 minutes, you can set your whole day up to be focused on the Lord.

  • Day 1: We make a paper doll chain to demonstrate the population growth we read about in Genesis 5.

  • Day 2: We handle a watch or timer as we talk about how, as time passed, the people drifted farther and farther from God.

  • Day 3: We embellish Noah's beard with ramen noodles or cotton balls as we learn about who Noah was and why God chose him to build the ark.

  • Day 4: God instructed Noah exactly how to build the ark, and we practice hammering nails into styrofoam to demonstrate the hard work it took Noah to follow God's instructions.

  • Day 5: We discuss obeying even when it's hard and even when everyone we know isn't obeying. We bounce a little bouncy ball to show that even when it's hard, and even when we get discouraged, God gives us the strength to "bounce back up" and follow Him.

We like to wrap up our Bible study with a review day. Staple the cards together to form a booklet, read it together, and maybe even have your child “read” it to another family member!

Prep a Bible Basket:

This is our Bible Basket setup, with the devotional card and sensory item(s) for that day in individual plastic sandwich bags. This is why you may hear me refer to them as, “sandwich bag devotionals” occasionally.
