Sensory Bible Devotional #3: God Rests

This series of Blog Posts will highlight the things we do and learn in each of the Devotionals!
This week, we are continuing the story of Creation by taking a full week to study how God rests (i.e. the Sabbath)!
Activities this Week:
While the children get to touch the cards and the sensory items, the true joy comes from consistently reading God’s Word together with your children. They get to hear God’s words directly from the Bible! There are discussion prompts on the back of each Devotional Card. In just 5 minutes, you can set your whole day up to be focused on the Lord.
Get those hands cutting, molding, shaking, squeezing, squishing, painting, and stamping this week as you read the Bible and discuss how God calls us to rest!
Day 1: We review the 6 days of Creation by using scissors to cut apart the little image cards, mix them, and put them back in order.
Day 2: We make the world that God loves out of blue and green play doh.
Day 3: We make egg shakers with plastic Easter eggs, rocks, and sand and discuss being quiet to honor and worship God and hear His Word.
Day 4: We mix food dye in shaving cream in a plastic bag to show that when we come together in church, something new and amazing happens!
Day 5: We use washable paint to paint our hands and make prayer handprints to remember to pray.
We like to wrap up our Bible study with a review day. Staple the cards together to form a booklet, read it together, and maybe even have your child “read” it to another family member!

This is our Bible Basket setup, with the devotional card and sensory item(s) for that day in individual plastic sandwich bags. This is why you may hear me refer to them as, “sandwich bag devotionals” occasionally.
